An Anonymous Thank You Note...

Lauren Smolar, Helpline Manager

I recently received the following e-mail of thanks from a father who contacted NEDA for resources and references to help his daughter. This letter was so moving and inspirational that we wanted to share it with all of you, because it is supporters and donors like YOU who make our life-saving work possible!

Dear NEDA,
I wanted to thank you all for the help and follow up.  You do a great service to families that are lost, in the mess that is ED. With a little information, and courage in knowing we weren't the alone in this fight, we got my daughter into a treatment program.  Today she's on the road to recovery.  Last week we spent 5 days in a Family group session with her and 3 other patients, and their families.  We dealt with a lot of emotion, revelation, and education, and came away knowing we'll have our little girl back, healthy, and in our lives soon.  Long way to go, but we're prepared to make the journey. Thank you again for the work you do, I’m sure you don't get paid enough to do the important work you do, but this family appreciates you being there when we needed you. As we told her, "you are worthy, precious, and deserve to be loved.” Thank you.

In addition to thanking all of our donors and supporters, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge all of the volunteers who make our national helpline possible. We have more than sixty trained volunteers at NEDA that are just a phone call or click away. These dedicated volunteers answer tens of thousands of calls and click-to-chats every year and we couldn’t provide the critical support to individuals and families who are affected by eating disorders without them.

Together, we can win the fight against eating disorders!
