When I get overwhelmed and upset, it's hard for me to cope, especially if it's due to a mistake I've made. In the past, I have used different ways of coping, both good and bad. When it gets to the point where I'm having a hard time, it is very hard for me to find positive ways to cope. Those tend to be the times I have used ED behaviors. I know this is wrong, but I want to be able to function again...unfortunately, since I've been trying to avoid my ED behaviors, my brain has found other ways to "cope". I have been having thoughts about dying and hurting myself...I would never go as far as suicide, but it has crossed my mind...please help. What can I do to cope with stress and feeling down with myself in ways that will promote growth and recovery?

I'm concerned

Hi there Julesthefox,

I'm sorry to hear you are going through a difficult time. Do you have a support group or therapist you can talk to? As the forums cannot give direct advice, we can guide you to resources that can. If you need resources you can contact the NEDA Helpline at 1-800-931-2237 M-TH 9AM-9PM F 9AM-5PM ET, and they can guide you to resources and any other questions you may have. I would also encourage you to contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), if you need help immediately. We are happy you are joining the NEDA community, we are all here to help and support each other. Recovery is worth it, and I know you can do it! Hang in there Julesthefox, and keep us updated on how you are doing.
