NEDA Staff will monitor the comments section Monday through Friday from 9 am – 5 pm ET within a 24 – 48 hour period.
Our social media page is intended to be informative, health affirming, supportive and, even—at times—fun. Content that glorifies eating disorders is not welcome. However, we understand that it can be tricky to decide whether it is appropriate to share something with the group when it comes to triggering content. While we acknowledge there is some gray area here, we’ll always err on the side of caution when deciding whether to take down a comment or post.
In an effort to maintain a safe and engaging space, we ask everyone in the NEDA community to treat each other with respect. Folks may disagree with a person or idea; however, you must be respectful of others at all times. Insults, threats or harassment of other community members, organizations or employees are prohibited.
We are dedicated to the following guidelines:
No Triggering Images or Content
Posts that have triggering images or content will be taken down during NEDA’s operating hours. This includes images and comments that are graphic in their depiction of an eating disorder, as well as messages that glorify thinness or perpetuate weight stigma.
No Numbers
Posts that include specific weights, BMI’s, measurements, calories – really any numbers at all that relate to measuring food or weight – will be taken down.
We Do Not Allow Hate Speech
Hate speech is anything that directly attacks or uses pejorative or discriminatory language with reference to a person or group on the basis of who they are, in other words, based on their weight, race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, gender identity or other identify factor, and serious disease or disability. Eating disorders affect people of all identities, including varying body weights and size.
Try to Keep it Positive
We know that eating disorders are terrible, devastating illnesses, and we also know that recovery is possible. We want this community to be a place of hope. If you are having a hard time, we are hopeful the community will help pick you up or direct you to the resources you need. Please don’t post comments implying that eating disorders are not treatable, rather we want our page to carry out the message that recovery is possible.
