Rural Minds Partnership:

Adolescents in rural communities may be more vulnerable to developing eating disorders and at risk for underdiagnosis and undertreatment. More research is needed to understand how to prevent and address eating disorders in rural communities.
More than half of rural areas in the United States have a shortage of mental health professionals or live in communities without a psychologist, psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse. This shortage makes it even more difficult to receive an accurate ED diagnosis and specialized treatment.
