Borne Dance Company's fourth annual eating disorder awareness show "Otherside" premieres February 23th, in honor of The National Eating Disorder Association’s (NEDA) Eating Disorder Awareness Week. In a presentation that can be described as interactive therapy,"Otherside" brings the artist’s healing process to their audience. Borne Dance Company will gather a collective of musicians, speakers, and movers of varying dynamics for an evening of artistic expression and inspiration while simultaneously providing educational resources. The event is designed to raise awareness of eating disorders in the spirit of body positivity and positive mental health. The evening will include original works of art from the realms of dance, music, literature and visual art. In the spirit and belief that art should be made accessible to everyone in our communities, admission will be donation-based and 80 percent of proceeds will go NEDA. The remaining proceeds will go directly to Borne Dance Company to help us continue to present donation based shows and workshops that bring awareness to our community and inspires the idea of recovery through art. Dr. Steven Crawford is Co-Director of The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt and Assistant Chief of Psychiatry at University of Maryland-St. Joseph Medical Center. Dr. Crawford has worked continuously in the field of eating disorder treatment for nearly three decades. He provides clinical leadership and supervision to staff at all levels of care at The Center for Eating Disorders and is consistently listed among Top Doctors in local and national professional surveys.

They will highlight how providers have affirmed their queer identities, eating, and body image concerns and provide examples of how clinicians can create affirming and healing spaces for queer folks with disordered eating/eating disorders.

Amy Sinclair is a local yoga teacher whose teaching style is focused on compassionate movement, and can be quite light-hearted and playful! Amy has been teaching yoga since 2013, and in 2014, she transitioned from her full time job as a food scientist to pursue her love of teaching yoga and planning yoga events and retreats. She now operates a yoga event business in addition to her full time job as a health coach for breast cancer patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. In her free time, you can find her exploring the woods with her dog and husband, or escaping to Vermont!
