National Eating Disorders Association Hosts Inaugural Regional Conference in Philadelphia

#NEDAcon 2018 to Unite the Mid-Atlantic Area In the Fight Against Eating Disorders May 12th

NEW YORK CITY — May 1, 2018 — For Immediate Release — The National Eating Disorders Association’s (NEDA) inaugural, regional conference, #NEDAcon, will be held in Philadelphia, Saturday, May 12 at Drexel University.

With the success of its annual, national conference — which brings together treatment professionals, individuals and families from across the country in a new city each year — #NEDAcon is designed to connect others in their region and to provide localized information and support.

Commented Claire Mysko, CEO of NEDA, “Eating disorders are complicated and often extremely isolating diseases. But no one should have to face the road to recovery alone.  #NEDAcon provides a supportive, nourishing environment for anyone looking for help for themselves or a loved one. We are proud to bring this support to more communities across the country. Together, we can overcome these life-threatening illnesses.”

Knowledgeable professionals practicing in the area will provide information on treatment options, recovery tools, media literacy, body positivity, how to support a loved one and more. In addition, individuals with a variety of backgrounds will share personal stories of their unique experiences and mealtimes will offer casual and formal opportunities to connect with other conference attendees, committee members, presenters and NEDA staff.

The program will offer presentations adapted towards those pursing recovery, including Eating Disorders 101 & Current Research, presented by Hallie Espel-Huynh, MS and Rebecca Berman, LCSW-C, CEDS, MLSP; How Do I Know if Treatment is Working?, presented by Melinda Parisi Cummings MSEd, PhD, and Sam Tryon, RD; and Key Indicators for Successful Recovery Outcomes, presented by Steven Crawford, MD.

A separate track designed for individuals in recovery will include Body Positivity, HAES, Body Neutrality, presented by Colleen Reichmann, PhD, and Ivy Felicia; Media Literacy, presented by Samantha DeCaro, PsyD; and Self-Care Tools for Sustaining Recovery, presented by Laura Cipullo.

Panel discussions moderated by Jennifer Kreatsoulas, PhD, RYT, and Brian Pollack, LCSW, CEDS, will also address challenges in recovery and self-care maintenance.
