Henning CEO Lauren Chan Joins National Eating Disorders Association as its Newest Ambassador

New York, NY — March 29, 2019 –– The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders, announced today the appointment of Lauren Chan as the newest NEDA Ambassador. Chan, a plus-size model and former award-winning journalist, is the founder and CEO of Henning, a forthcoming fashion brand for sizes 12 and up (@henning, henningnyc.com).

“The fashion industry has become more size inclusive in recent years, but there is still a long way to go. I’m looking forward to finding new ways to advance body diversity efforts as a NEDA Ambassador,” said Lauren Chan. “It’s my goal to have Henning employees trained by NEDA to confront unrealistic beauty ideals and to integrate some of the organization’s messaging into customer content.”

Chan began her career as a plus-size model alongside change-makers like Ashley Graham and Candice Huffine. Thereafter, she became a fashion editor at Glamour, where she solidified herself as an advocate for women above size 12. Her fight to make the fashion industry more inclusive of different bodies included a personal column, an online vertical, clothing collections, and work as a brand ambassador.

“Lauren is exemplary in her efforts to raise awareness around size acceptance and body positivity. As an editor, she highlighted our national discourse on weight stigma and continues to change the narrative,” said NEDA’s Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships Kristen Snow. “We’re honored to have her join our diverse roster of Ambassadors as we work to show that eating disorders can affect anyone at any time.”

NEDA Ambassadors are changemakers and advocates who use their personal experiences and platforms to raise awareness of eating disorders, combat diet culture and promote body acceptance. Lauren joins other talented Ambassadors like LGBT brawn model Ryan Sheldon, model Iskra Lawrence and social media influencer Gina Susanna.

Connect with NEDA Ambassadors through social media, the NEDA blog or at a NEDA Walk or event in your community. Visit https://www.www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/about-us/neda-ambassadors for more information.
