Eating disorders have the second highest mortality rate of all mental health disorders behind opioid use disorder. These deaths leave behind families, friends and other loved ones who, too often, are grieving this loss without the support they need and deserve.
If you or someone you know has lost a loved one related to an eating disorder there is help available.
Below are a list of resources that may be helpful in the grieving process:
The Compassionate Friends
The Compassionate Friends offers support and resources to bereaved families during the grieving process after a child has died.
National Alliance for Children’s Grief
The National Alliance for Children’s Grief (NACG) is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about the needs of children and teens who are grieving a death and provides education and resources for anyone who supports them.
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP)
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) provides support to survivors of suicide loss and those affected by suicide.
