Where to begin?

Just joined. Parent of 21 year old, with known history of ED, but thought it had ended. Are there any FAQs, forum Sticky, etc.? Directory of local groups? Feeling terrified.

there is hope

Hi MEllen59,
I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. Here is a link that you can input your state and they can tell you support groups in your area .http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/find-treatment/support-groups-res...
Also my daughter's doctor was able to give us a name of a eating disorder center, that helped a lot, because I felt so lost and overwhelmed. We were able to get her into the center her doctor recommended and it has been life changing for my daughter and our family.
Many people told me to get counseling for myself, but I held off on it, I just felt so overwhelmed. I now realize if I would have gotten into counseling earlier, it would have helped me a lot. Please take care of yourself, and if you can find a friend or family member to talk to, that might help a lot.
I also have found posting here has helped me. I hope that you can find the answers you need and that both you and your daughter can find peace and that she can get healthier.
I would love to hear how both of you are doing.

NEDA Helpline

Hi MEllen59!

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling so scared! I would also recommend calling the NEDA Helpline at 1-800-931-2237, M-Th 9-9 EST and F 9-5 EST. Trained volunteers can help you locate resources in your area, and its a great opportunity to talk to someone about what you are going through. Also, this forum is a great place to post and hear back from other parents facing similar situations.

Keep us updated!

Listen to 2joy2

As a mother with a 26 year old daughter, I agree that self care is the first thing you need to do. I listen carefully to my body after dealing with my daughters 12 year struggle. Gum disease and tooth issues are some of the first symptoms of your body not dealing with the stress.
Take a spa day. If you want to be there for your child, you have to be well armed.

Good luck. I am so sorry for your fear. It is real and warranted. But we can't always live in fear. My saving grace has been stopping once a day and truly counting my blessings, including the goodness that lies in my daughter. This disease is brutal, and it can take a toll on you, but your blessing can help you withstand the battles.

Sending my love,
