Thanks for being here

Hello friends. I am happy to have found this forum. I only wish I would have found it sooner. As I was reading posts I just started crying because I was overcome with a feeling of "finally, people who get it." But at the same time I'm also sorry that you get it because that means you know depths of pain that (fortunately for them) not all parent's experience.

In short, my reason for landing here is that I have a 14yr old daughter who has depression, anxiety, self-harms, and an eating disorder. Everyday is a struggle on some level. A year or so ago I would have never imagined that my life/her life would be as it is now, but here we are. I have no real answers but I can offer understanding. I have some wonderful friends who are supportive of my situation but if you're reading this then you probably know that you only truley 'get it' if you 'live it.' Thanks in advance for your support.
All the best to all of you!

Thanks birdie22 for your warm welcome and for sharing your story. I find it helpful to hear stories such as yours, especially on the really dark days. I'm in this with her for as long as it takes and I don't need for it to be easy (though the good days are always welcome) but I do need the hope that a bright, beautiful future is possible for her.

Hi 1mom123,

We're happy to have you here on the forums! I know what you mean; as someone who has watched a loved one struggle, it was such a relief to read about others' experiences with EDs online and to feel like we weren't the only ones dealing with this.

I just thought I'd chime in to say welcome, and to share some other great resources available on the NEDA site:

Please keep us updated on how things are going. Good luck to you and to your family! We wish you all the best.

Hi again 1mom123,

I hope you and your daughter are well! I wanted to add some other resources that might be good to have on-hand and to share with your daughter:

Call 800-931-2237 or chat online with the NEDA Helpline to find ED resources near you:

Text "NEDA" to 741741 to be connected with a trained volunteer at the Crisis Text Line

Call 800-DONTCUT (366-8288) to connect with a self-harm hotline:

Call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or chat online with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline:

Hi 1mom123

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. It was like reading about my own daughter. My daughter has ED, depression, anxiety and she self harms. It has been a hard road, my daughter is doing much better. There are still struggles, yet there is so much hope. For us getting her into a Center for ED was life changing. Also getting counseling for myself has benefitted myself, and all my family.I hope that she gets the help she needs and that you can get the help and support you need. I am so thankful for this forum and for those who have supported my daughter and I. I am so glad you are here and that you are sharing your experiences
with us.
I hope you are able to find a bit of joy each day. I would love to hear how you and your daughter are doing. Do not give up hope.
