Terrified - Daughter Diagnosed OCD & Anorexic

(I inadvertently posted this on the partners site. )

I'm so glad I found this site! My daughter was diagnosed with OCD and Anorexia this fall. She is away at college and I thought things were going as well as could be expected - not gaining weight, but not losing any either. I visited her the other week and commented that I was so glad to see that she had gained a little weight. Since that time she has lost what little she might have gained and then some. Her therapist wants to go to an inpatient facility for the summer.
I'm terrified by the statistics that I read. I don't know how to help my child. A kiss won't make this all better. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum!

Hi Teresa,

Welcome to the forums! I am sorry to hear about your daughter's struggles! You sound like a wonderful and caring mother, I know it is hard to know how to provide support or encourage someone else to seek further treatment. Is your daughter currently seeing a therapist that specializes in eating disorders? You can call the NEDA Helpline at 1-800-931-2237 (M-R 9-9, F 9-5 EST) for more resources in your area, including support groups (both for you and your daughter). You may also want to look at the Parental Toolkit and NEDA Navigators, which you can find here: https://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/parent-family-friends-network.

Good luck and keep us updated!

It is such a scary situation. When my daughter's doctor told us we needed to get her into a center for eating disorders I was overwhelmed and terrified. Her doctor had given us a name of a place and luckily we got her in within 2 weeks. It helped her and us. There is hope. My daughter is healthier than she has been in years. I hope things go well for you and your daughter. Hang in there and take care of yourself so that you can be healthy (physically and emotionally) to help your daughter.
