Legislative Advocacy Manager
Position Summary:

Research and Outreach

  • Receive training from STAR Program Manager on current legislative actions and policies related to eating disorders.
    • Conduct research on state and federal legislative issues.
  • With guidance and mentoring from the STAR Program Manager, assist in researching organizations to partner with and participate in legislative initiatives.
  • Opportunity to increase knowledge and understanding of eating disorders and legislative process.
  • Participate in drafting of blog posts related to legislative issues to be posted on the NEDA website.


  • Learn how to write letter writing campaigns to support legislative efforts on the state and federal level.
  • Interns will be mentored by STAR Program Manager to mobilize NEDA members to take action.
  • Contribute to the association’s mission of eliminating eating disorders and body dissatisfaction. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advocacy or legislative experience is highly preferred (though training and shadowing opportunities will be provided).
  • Familiarity with eating disorders and eating disorder related issues preferred.  


Required Qualifications:

  • High energy, positive attitude, and enthusiasm.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Strong computer skills, data entry and word-processing ability.
  • Must be dependable and self-motivated.
  • Able to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team.
  • Recovery is important to us here at NEDA. We require that applicants with personal experience who are interested in getting involved with the National Eating Disorders Association have two years of strong recovery due to the intense and triggering nature of this position.
