Join us in the CEDC Lobby March 2 from 10am to 12:30pm at CEDC!

For National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, CEDC focuses on eating disorder prevention and recovery through sharing experiences and speaking out about what we can all do to help promote a good relationship with our bodies and food. CEDC treats individuals with eating disorders every day, so we see how easy it is for the wrong messages about food and body image to take hold. That’s why it’s important to spotlight the journeys of those who have recovered and provide a platform for speaking out on the latest prevention efforts by community leaders and clinicians and also sharing best practices in promoting a healthy relationship with our bodies and food

Part 1. Prevention

10am - Dr. S. Bryn Austin, of the Harvard Chan School of Public Health and Boston Children’s Hospital and director of STRIPED (Strategic Training Initiative for the Prevention of Eating Disorders) to speak about the important research she has done in support of HD.2883 and other initiatives.

10:45am - Massachusetts State Representative Kay Khan, sponsor of legislation (HD.2883) which prevents retailers from selling over-the-counter diet pills and supplements to minors and requires that such products be kept behind counters much like tobacco products.

Part 2. Recovery

11:05am - Author Jen Petro-Roy, an eating disorder survivor who wrote two children’s books on the topic that are being published this month. She will share her story of recovery along with several other noted recovery speakers who will inspire all with their words of hope and resilience.

The Cambridge Eating Disorder Center provides individuals suffering with eating disorders a comprehensive continuum of support services focused on their recovery. Our treatment programs focus on reducing the eating disorder symptoms while promoting the development of a healthy self that encompasses both emotional and physical well-being.
