help with parental controls of internet/ blocking "pro-ana"

Can anyone help me figure out how to stop my daughters access to "pro ana"sites? Does anyone know what type of software is easiest to use or what terms/sites to block. My 14 year old googles "thinspiration" and finds the worst possible images and messages. Is there anything else I should block? Thanks for any insight/advice!

Hi CJean!

Hi CJean!

I am not sure how to block access to certain "pro ana" websites. Does your 14 year old daughter currently see a therapist or have any kind of treatment team in place? At one point when I was really struggling with my eating disorder, I also looked at these type of websites. However, once I started working on the reasons as to why (when I started speaking with a professional) I was looking at these websites, these behaviors stopped eventually.

The NEDA website has a lot of different kinds of resources for you and your daughter to look into. There is the "Helpline" phone number and there you can speak privately to trained volunteers about treatment options in your local area. The phone number is 1-800-931-2237 and the "Helpline" phone number is available Monday - Thursday from 9:00 am - 9:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (EST).

Please let us know how we can further help you and your daughter! You always have a listening ear here on the NEDA community forums.
