Help my daughter

My daughter is 20 years old and severely bulimic. She's suffered for about 4 years. Even after not being able to purge for 8 months due to incarceration, she came home and was immediately back to it. She called me crying today wanting help. I do not know where to turn or who to get her to for help.

Thanks for opening up to the forum about your daughter - I hope we can help you to support your daughter. She is very lucky to have a mom like you :)

It is really amazing that she approached you saying that she wants to get help. The most important factor in recovery is self-motivation, and it seems like she has that! Regarding where she can get help, I recommend that you call NEDA's helpline where they can provide you with all sorts of info on resources in your area, from therapists and nutritionists to inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities. Here is their info: Monday-Thursday from 9:00 am - 9:00 pm and Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (EST) at 1-800-931-2237

I really hope that your daughter will find the help that she needs/deserves. Also, don't forget about your own needs (mentally, physically, emotionally) during this formidable recovery process. You will be a much better support system for your daughter if you remain strong yourself, so I encourage you to reach out to loved ones or therapy, or even simply to take more time doing the things you love.

Best of luck, and please continue to reach out to the forums for help/advice
xx Hannah
