Depressed and not myself!

I don't feel like myself tonight. All day I have been feeling off and depressed and having the feeling to binge eat. And I haven't because I have been keeping busy, school work and going for walks. But I can't pick myself up or make this feeling of binge eating go away. I don't know what to do.

Hi. I am proud of you for your commitment to recovery even when it becoming unbearable, your feelings of depression, not feeling yourself. It has got to be tiring to be in binge mode most of the time. BUT... you have not given in and that is fantastic. For me, with my self harm, I never thought I could ever stop. But one day I made a decision. I want to surrender this to God and asked Him to help me abstain. As the months pass because at first I found it difficult to not engage, after time the urges have slowly gone away and now I rarely obsess and when I do I ask for help, and ask myself, will this change the situation, will this solve the problem, and how much will it hurt my recovery. As we know, eating disorders are a mask for hiding and burying the pain. Temporarily. Then we still have to deal with the problem anyway. I am happy to see you are utilizing this forum for support. We are here for you. Hope always. As you continue to resist the urge to binge, with time the urges will become less and less. That is my prayer for you, that you have less urges and that you know you can resist. My faith in Jesus has helped me so much to be where I am at today. I am by no means perfect. Just read what I posted about what happened with my sister. But I was able to relax and as I am typing I need to ask for forgiveness and offer it to my sister. You are not alone and we are here for you.

NEDA helpline

Hey London1621!

I know it must feel frustrating to not know what to do when it comes to binge eating. My suggestion is to call the helpline and see what tools they have for you. (800) 931-2237. and they are 9 am to 9 pm Monday-Thursday and on Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.

I would suggest maybe talking with a friend when you are feeling an urge too. Eating disorder behaviors always seem to happen when we are isolated.

Hope this helps!
