Maybe a ED

I have this friend I'm worrying about.
She doesn't eat a whole lot in a day and then she makes sure she burns more calories than she ate.
She just started this about a week or so ago but has already lost weight.
The past 2 days she was telling me that she ate more than she has been and she was so upset with herself for going over her planned amount.
I don't know what to do for her

Hi Ljlaws,

Thank you so much for coming to the forums. The fact that you sought out ways to help your friend shows how much you care about her and how amazing of a friend you are. Though I'm not a doctor and can't diagnose her, your friend seems to be showing possible disordered eating behavior, so I definitely think you have a right to be concerned. I would say that the next step you should take is to talk to her about your concerns. It's possible that it's nothing, but I would definitely suggest hearing that from her. I would also recommend having her take the eating disorders screening that NEDA offers ( This isn't an official diagnosis, but it can help her realize that her behaviors and thoughts are disordered (if they are).

Again, thank you for reaching out here. Your friend is lucky to have someone who cares as much as you do, and I hope you both see that. I hope you will reach out to her about your concerns. Please keep us updated!
