Hi. My daughter has been suffering from an eating disorder for the past 4 years. She is now 16.5. For the past 1.5 years we have been doing Family Based Therapy (FBT) and it has been successful thus far but we can't seem to get out of phase 2. My daughter is at a good weight but is still riddled with ED thoughts/behaviors and without our constant monitoring she would not be able to maintain weight. I am researching alternative/complimentary therapy approaches and am wondering if anyone has tried/been successful with CBT-E. Any insight would be appreciated!

hi laliebman,
I do not know anything about CBT-E. For my daughter Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) has helped a lot. She is meeting with a dietician and a therapist that deals with eating disorders and tried to get my daughter to use DBT skills. A crisis hit and we ended up adding on a specialist that does DBT sessions with her each week plus a DBT group that we both attend weekly. It is really making a difference. I hope you can find what works best for her. I am glad she has been maintain her weight, that is a blessing.

Glad to hear she is getting

Glad to hear she is getting more help. Have read that good brain function does not return until much closer to normal. Typical behaviours will persist until that happens. Hopefully the support will allow her to get there. Our son is at a similar level and we still see some distorted thinking.
