Loss Support Network

Supporting individuals and families who have lost a loved one to an eating disorder.

"NEDA understands the challenges facing those who have lost a loved one with an eating disorder. We are committed to creating an ongoing support system to help people coping with this unique kind of grief."
- Ilene Fishman, LCSW, Loss Support Network Clinical Advisor, NEDA Founder

What is the Loss Support Network?

The Loss Support Network brings together those who have lost a loved one to an eating disorder in order to provide support to each other. You can request the support of a volunteer who has been through a similar loss, become a volunteer to support those who have suffered a recent loss and/or get a contact list of other network volunteers in your area.

The names of network members will not be displayed publicly and will only be released to connect network volunteers with each other and those seeking support.

How does it work?
There are 3 options:

1) Volunteer to support others: Add your name to the network list, which signs you up as a volunteer to support others who have suffered a similar loss.

2) Request support from someone who has also suffered the loss of a loved one to an eating disorder: You can request to have NEDA send you a list of volunteers in your area, or request that NEDA send your contact information to a volunteer who will reach out to you directly.

3) Connect with other volunteers in your area: If you are already a Network volunteer, you can request a list of other volunteers near you.

Which option is right for you?

Option 1: Volunteering to support others
This option is best for those who:

  • Feel comfortable discussing their loss and experience with others
  • Feel able to listen to the experiences of others who have lost someone
  • Can share helpful coping mechanisms
  • Want to help others get through difficult times in dealing with their grief and loss
  • Want to connect with others who feel comfortable being a support person
To add your name to the database of network volunteers, click on the "Volunteer to Support Others: Add your name to the list of Loss Support Network volunteers now" button below.

Option 2: Requesting support from a volunteer
This option is best for those who:

  • Have experienced a recent loss and would like to speak with someone who has been through it themselves
  • Are not yet ready to volunteer to support others, but want to be connected to individuals who have suffered a similar loss
To request to be connected to a network member, click on the "Request Support from a Loss Support Network Volunteer" button below.

Option 3: Connect with other volunteers in your area
This option is best for those who:

  • Are already a volunteer in the network and would like to be introduced to others who are comfortable talking about their experience of loss
To request a list of other network volunteers, click on the "I'm Already a Loss Support Network Volunteer: Connect Me with Other Volunteers" button below.
