Legislative Victory in Virginia!
By Lara Gregorio, MA, STAR Program Manager
As of February 11th, the Virginia House and Senate have passed legislation for information about eating disorders to be sent to parents of all Virginia public school students. The bill also calls for the Department of Health to work with NEDA and other stakeholders to develop a plan for implementing eating disorder screenings in schools.
This is a major victory for early intervention, thanks to all of the dedicated Virginians who spoke out in support of this initiative and/or participated in our January 15th Lobby Day. And, special thanks to Delegate Dickie Bell (pictured left with STAR advocates) for his patronage.
We are hopeful that the governor will soon sign the bill into law.
