Paying for Treatment & Insurance Problems

I was in residential treatment twice for bulimia- 2000 & 2002. I am now recovered and looking for health insurance, but have been declined once. Any suggestions?

I think the best approach is to keep looking. Unfortunately, the health insurance industry does not see its primary role as assuring that we all have adequate health care coverage. Instead, insurance companies often attempt to minimize the number of participants enrolled in their plans who will cost them money. Because of this, various carriers may deny you care or at least may deny any further care for the treatment of an eating disorder, seeing it as a "pre-existing condition".

One way around this potential problem is to work for an entity that has a well established group health insurance policy that will cover you automatically. However, if you are searching for an individual policy, you may have much more difficulty finding an appropriate vendor. The best advice is to simply keep looking.
