NEDA Announces "Embrace Your Genes" Campaign Website
NEDAwareness Week (Feb. 24-March 1, 2008) Aims to Prevent Eating Disorders and Eliminate Negative Body Image with “Embrace Your Genes” Campaign
NEW YORK (February 11, 2008)—The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is proud to announce the launch of www.embraceyourgenes.org, a special collaboration with online jeans retailer TrueJeans.com to encourage people to feel good about their body – no matter what healthy shape or size -- and find jeans that fit their true body shape.
The launch of the website marks the beginning of NEDAwareness Week 2008, an annual event which raises awareness of the seriousness of eating disorders – anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder – in the U.S. Nearly 10 million women and one million men suffer from eating disorders, and many millions more from eating disorders that have not been clinically diagnosed. Embraceyourgenes.org offers information about eating disorders, the importance of having a healthy body image, and how to get involved in events around the country planned for NEDAwareness Week.
Effective immediately, and continuing through the end of March, True Jeans will offer visitors to www.embraceyourgenes.org the opportunity to get $20 off the price of a pair of jeans (valued at $100 or more) purchased using the promotional code “MYGENES.” True Jeans will donate another $20 per pair of jeans sold through the site to NEDA to support its many educational programs and outreach efforts. TrueJeans.com is an online jeans store that uses advanced technology to match men and women of all shapes and sizes to jeans that fit. TrueJeans.com features over 25 designer jeans brands. Women’s sizes range from 00 to size to 28Plus. Mens jeans range from size 29 to 80 waist. Denim bracelets, designed by Paige Premium Denim, will also be sold on the site, with proceeds going to NEDA.
“The theme for this year’s NEDAwareness Week highlights the fact that body size and shape are strongly influenced by biological factors,” said Lynn Grefe, NEDA CEO. “NEDA and TrueJeans.com want people everywhere to feel comfortable both in their own genes and jeans, and benefit from the increased information and awareness of eating disorders.”
