Thank you for considering a volunteer or internship experience with the National Eating Disorders Association. We offer a variety of opportunities from one-time only, seasonal projects to on-going commitments in our Seattle headquarters office as well as limited volunteer options in our New York administrative office. Currently, unpaid internship opportunities for college students are offered at our national headquarters in Seattle.
Our goal is to design a volunteer or internship experience that meets your needs and the needs of the agency by following these three guidelines:
- Work towards our vision of eliminating eating disorders and body dissatisfaction,
- Nurture the development and education of volunteers/interns,
- Contribute to the overall well-being of those we serve by our collaboration.
Available opportunities:
Maryland/DC area Volunteer/Intern
Location: Maryland/DC
Days/Hrs Needed: Must be available weekdays, 8:30 - 4:00 pm.
Position Length: 5 - 10 hrs/week. Commitment length variable.
Summary:
Contribute to NEDA's mission of expanding public understanding and prevention of eating disorders and providing support to individuals and families by supporting advocacy efforts in our nation's capital.
Work may be conducted remotely and/or in the Rockville, Maryland home office. Working under the direction of the STAR program manager, some tasks and activities could include:
- Conducting research and outreach to build support for legislative initiatives
- Organizing and catalog constituents’ stories of insurance struggles
- Conducting outreach to Maryland professionals and organizations
- Assisting in planning legislative, fundraising, or community-building events

Marketing Volunteer/Intern
Location: NEDA office in downtown Seattle
Days/Hrs Needed: Must be available weekdays, 8:30 - 4:00 pm.
Position Length: minimum 3 hours/week for volunteers 10/week for Intern. Commitment length variable.
Summary:
Contribute to NEDA's mission of expanding public understanding and prevention of eating disorders and providing support to individuals and families by assisting in a new marketing campaign. The marketing intern will increase their knowledge and understand of eating disorders as well as the marketing techniques and strategies for a not-for-profit organization.

Development/Fundraising Volunteer/Intern
Location: NEDA office in downtown Seattle
Days/Hrs Needed: Must be available weekdays, 8:30 - 4:00 pm.
Position Length: minimum 3 hours/week for volunteers 10/week for Intern. Commitment length variable.
Summary:
Contribute to the association’s mission of eliminating eating disorders and body dissatisfaction! Assist staff in recording donations and donor acknowledgement, as well as researching corporate and foundation prospects. Tasks may include data entry, mailing thank you letters, internet research, cleaning up donor records, mailing projects and organizing files. Assist with conference and special event planning. If the volunteer has strong computer, writing, graphic design, or other skills not mentioned here, we may also have other projects that fit these skills and interests.

Information and Referral Helpline Volunteer/Intern
Location: NEDA office in downtown Seattle
Days/Hrs Needed: Must be available weekdays, 8:30 - 4:30 pm.
Position Length: Commitment minimum after training 6 months at 3 hours/week for volunteers, 3 months at 8hrs/week for Interns.
Summary:
Information and Referral Helpline volunteers offer information and referrals to callers and answer basic questions regarding body image and eating disorders in a caring and compassionate manner. The Helpline volunteer may also assist with other duties in the National Eating Disorders Association's office as needed (e.g. writing letters, assisting with information distribution, etc.) This position is a great learning opportunity and involves over 8 hours of training.

NEDAwareness Week Volunteer/Intern
Location: Seattle, WA
Days/Hrs Needed: 3-8 hrs/week
Position Length: 10 weeks - 6 months
Summary:
Be a part of the program team dedicated to spreading awareness of eating disorders and supporting those affected by them leading up to and during the National Eating Disorders Association's (NEDA) largest outreach effort, NEDAwareness Week. As a NEDAwareness Week Intern, you will help the cause by performing vital customer service and marketing duties surrounding this massive outreach effort. Your support will be an essential part of a very important program at NEDA.
Programs Volunteer/Intern
Location: Seattle, WA
Days/Hrs Needed: 3-8 hrs/week
Position Length: 10 weeks - 6 months
Summary:
Contribute to NEDA's Mission of expanding public understanding and prevention of eating disorders and providing support to individuals and families by assisting programs staff with ongoing educational outreach projects. The programs intern will increase their knowledge and understanding of eating disorders as well as the intricacies of a not-for-profit organization.

Special Events Volunteer
Location: Nationwide
Days/Hrs Needed: Varies depending on event
Position Length: Commitment depends on the event and can range from 1 day to 2-4 weeks
Summary:
The National Eating Disorders Association has many events throughout the country for which we need volunteers. Please contact us for further information by email wwalters@myneda.org
Include the state and city or region in which you are available and we will contact you when an event comes to town.

Annual Conference Volunteer
Location: Marriott New York at the Brooklyn Bridge
Days/Hrs Needed: October 8-10, 2010
Position Length: One weekend
Summary:
The National Eating Disorders Association hosts an annual conference that brings top experts in the field of eating disorders together with treatment providers and individuals, families and friends impacted by eating disorders. This year it will be held in New York at the Marriott New York at the Brooklyn Bridge. Volunteers will be needed to support the production of this important event. Who is eligible?
High school and college students (undergraduate and graduate) 18 years old and above
How much does it cost?
Student Volunteers attend the conference for a reduced cost: $300.00
What do Student Volunteers do?
You will be assigned to a limited number of tasks and outside of those select volunteer tasks, you will be free to engage in the conference as you please.
